Kate Caddy (1949-2019) was born in New York in 1949, the eldest daughter of Maurice and Ruth Ash and granddaughter of Leonard and Dorothy Elmhirst, founders of Dartington Hall in Devon. She studied dance and drama at Dartington College of Arts and then moved to London and became more involved with music. In 1972 she helped to found the International Musicians Seminar based at Prussia Cove in Cornwall and was also very involved with the Dartington Summer School of Music until her death.
