Distinguished Belize born British composer photographed in 1995 when she was teaching composition at Dartington Summer School of Music. In 2007 she was made a CBE for her services to music and in 2020 was the recipient of the Distinguished Musician Award, one of the highest honours in the music industry. She was also the first black woman composer to have a work performed at the Proms.
