Pavel Novak - born in Brno in 1957 - and photographed here at Dartington Summer School of Music, studied with Milos Istvan at Janácek Academy of Music, Brno; later in London with George Benjamin and in Paris with Gérard Grisey. His music is intensely spiritual and reflects his devout religious faith. He teaches composition at Brno Conservatory. His 24 Preludes and Fugues were written for the English pianist William Howard over a 17 year period and many of them were premiered at Dartington Summer School of Music.
