Ravi Shankar KBE (1920-2012) was an eminent Indian sitarist and composer. A sitar virtuose, he became the world's best-known expert of North Indian classical music in the second half of the 20th century and influenced many musicians in India and throughout the world. In 2004, 70 years on from his first visit to Dartington as a child with his brother's dance company, he composed a suit entitled Sanmelon to be performed at the Dartington Summer School of Music that year. The photo shows him rehearsing with the musicians at Dartington.
